Olmos on Blade Runner
(Fri, Jun 08, 2007)
In which Edward James Olmos blames Harrison Ford for Blade Runner's box office failure and consequent lack of franchise sequels. He thinks fans expected Han Solo and got Sam Spade. Personally I doubt sequels were ever envisioned, at least not by Ridley Scott, who has never made a sequel to one of his own films (although others have made sequels to Alien). And while I love Gaff, and even still have a bit of fondness for Adama Redux, I think Olmos has turned into a bit of a gasbag.
Doctor Who: Blink
(Sun, Jun 10, 2007)
Damn skippity, last night's Doctor Who episode -- "Blink" by Steven Moffat -- was outrageously good. Mostly I'm not a big fan of the current Doctor, David Tennant -- he's a bit too histrionic, too excitable, sentimental -- so I didn't mind so much when he was hardly around this week: it was one of those peripheral perspective episodes, where the Doctor shows up as a supporting character. Even if you don't usually watch the new Doctor Who series, you should grab this episode. There was one scene that literally made me leap out of my chair then had me perched on its edge for the next ten minutes. Outrageously good! (BTW, the two episodes before this one were also very good.)
